Senior Way, Croft Street and Manchester Road

Super Crossing visualisation

What is happening here?

Our team is working on widening the road here to make space for new cycleways, extra lanes of traffic and better crossings.

Which roads will be affected?

A map detailing the changes that Senior Way, Croft Street, and Manchester Road will see as part of the Bradford City Centre Walking and Cycling Improvements Scheme. There are seven captions on the map. Caption one: An upgraded, segregated, two-directional cycleway is going to be added on Manchester Road as part of the National Cycle Network Route 66. Caption two: The pedestrian island on Croft Street will be reduced in size to add an extra lane of traffic. Caption three: Toucan crossings will be added on Nelson Street and Croft Street to allow people to cross the road more easily and safely. Caption four: A new island will be constructed on the southern side of Manchester Road, at its junction with Senior Way and Croft Street, along with a staggered crossing. Caption five: The existing crossings on the northern side of Manchester Road will be realigned to make it easier for people who walk and people on bikes to cross the road. Caption six: The island on Senior Way will be reduced in size to accommodate an extra lane of traffic. Caption seven: Sharpe Street will be closed to traffic at its junction with Manchester Road to accommodate a two-way segregated cycle track.

What effect will construction have on the road network?

Upcoming changes:

We are anticipating that all roads will remain open to traffic, as they currently are, until spring 2024. Until then, there may be temporary lane closures, temporary traffic lights and temporary changes to footpaths to enable us to make changes to the highway network. However, you will still be able to access all roads by car, van, motorcycle etc.

Please plan your journey ahead of time as we expect there to be delays. From spring 2024, Hall Ings, Bank Street, Market Street, Broadway and some of Bridge Street will not be accessible by car with exceptions for deliveries only.
