Have your say and help shape plans for the South Bradford Park and Ride Scheme.

Bradford Council, in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, want to hear your views on the South Bradford Park and Ride Scheme.

The scheme aims to improve travel times, reduce congestion and reduce pollution levels along Manchester Road, which is a key route into and out of the city.

The proposals, include:

  • New, targeted bus improvements along Manchester Road including priority at traffic lights and key junctions and a new bus lane to provide quicker and more reliable journeys.
  • An Active Travel Cycle Route, including improvements to the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 66, new links away from the main road and connections into the wider cycling network.
  • A Park and Ride facility, made up of a surface car parking area and a terminal building, next to the former Richard Dunn Sports Centre building. This would offer a secure car park and attractive journey costs, providing an alternative to driving into the city.

Please click here for more information and to have your say.  The consultation closes on Thursday 21 December 2023.

Filling of Jacobs Well roundabout nearing completion

Jacobs Well roundabout is being transformed into a ‘super crossing’ as part of the city centre scheme.

Having shared that the work was well underway to fill in the roundabout in the e-newsletter on 13 October, we are pleased to report that the work is nearing completion.

Once complete, the next step is to begin constructing the new carriageway which will run over the roundabout as well as the new ‘super-crossing’. This work is expected to begin next month.

Visit the Future Bradford website for more information.

Reminder – Important changes on Vicar Lane, Great Cross Road, George Street, and West Street

On the evening of Thursday 9 November 2023, work began on Vicar Lane, Great Cross Road, George Street, and West Street.

This work will make changes to the road network that will alter how vehicles use this area of the city centre, including changing the direction of traffic flow on sime roads and stopping up Vicar Lane and Well Street so they are no longer through routes.

Please see the map below or visit our website for more detail here.

Early notice of upcoming bus and road changes

Another reminder that from early 2024, new bus routes will come into effect and buses will no longer travel through the city centre. Instead, they will be routed around the core along dedicated bus routes to improve reliability and journey times.

More information on these route changes will be shared in the coming months.

For information on current bus disruptions and diversions around the district please do check the Metro website: https://www.wymetro.com/plan-a-journey/travel-news/bus-travel-alerts/
