Godwin Street/Sunbridge Road

Cameras will be operational from May/June 2026 to enforce the existing yellow box junction.

Why camera enforcement is needed

The junction of Godwin Street and Sunbridge Road in Bradford city centre features a marked yellow box junction to keep traffic flowing. However, drivers frequently ignore this restriction and enter the yellow box without a clear exit. This causes traffic to back up, blocks emergency vehicles, and is frustrating for other road users. It can also create safety risks for other vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Cameras will be used to deter drivers from stopping in the yellow box without a clear exit, helping to keep traffic flowing smoothly and reducing the risk of accidents. Proper use of the box also ensures that emergency services can move through the junction without delay.

Description below the map.

This map shows Bradford Council’s plans to install cameras on the junction of Sunbridge Road and Godwin Street, to enforce existing traffic restrictions. New cameras will enforce no stopping at the existing yellow box junction. The map is illustrative and indicates existing permitted traffic flows and new camera enforcement locations.

How it will work

During the first six months, warning notices will be issued for first-time offences. Subsequent offences will incur a penalty charge notice (PCN) of £70, discounted to £35 if paid within 21 days. Appeals will follow the existing process for parking and camera fines.

All sites will be monitored continuously. If a high level of compliance is maintained over a 12-month period, cameras may be removed.
