Vicar Lane/Bridge Street - In Consultation

Have your say on plans to install traffic cameras to enforce the existing no-right-turn restrictions.

Why camera enforcement is needed

The busy junction of Vicar Lane and Bridge Street in Bradford city centre connects traffic from central Bradford to the south-eastern routes of the city. It is a key route for commuters, public transport, and local traffic.

No-right-turn restrictions are currently in place for vehicles travelling north along Vicar Lane. However, these restrictions are frequently ignored. Drivers ignoring this restriction have been identified as a safety risk, causing collisions, conflicts with pedestrians, and congestion at the junction.

To improve safety and reduce delays, cameras will be/have been installed to enforce existing no-right-turn restrictions. Illegal right turns at this junction have been identified as a significant safety risk, causing collisions, disrupting traffic flow, and creating conflicts with other vehicles. Enforcement will help ensure smoother traffic movement and reduce the risk of accidents.

How it will work

If the proposals to install cameras are approved, during the first six months of operation, warning notices will be issued for first-time offences. Subsequent offences will incur a penalty charge notice (PCN) of £70, discounted to £35 if paid within 21 days. Appeals will follow the existing process for parking and camera fines.

Have your say

As part of the decision-making process, a six-week public consultation will be held from [dates TBC]. We are inviting feedback from:

  • Residents and businesses located near the junction.

  • Road users and pedestrians who travel through the junction.
