New trees planted at Norfolk Gardens

We return to the Norfolk Gardens area this week, where several large cherry blossom trees have been planted along the new paved footways and stepping stones.

These trees will bloom with purple-pink flowers in spring time, bringing a vibrant touch of colour to the city centre. A total of 11 of these trees will be planted, with further soft landscaping (meaning the adding of decorative elements) and other types of trees to follow.

Also in the Norfolk Gardens area, the first of several large wooden benches has been placed outside The Bradford Hotel, adding new seating to the area.

Work continues on new footways and cycleways, with key crossings being installed to improve accessibility for all users. The routes are currently being fitted with lighting columns, to ensure they are well lit at night.

Upcoming overnight works

A period of overnight works is currently underway in the city centre. The work is being carried out to add new road markings. During the following periods, the below roads will be closed to allow the works to be carried out safely and quickly.

  • 20-21 February: Bridge Street, from Vicar Lane to St Georges Hall.

  • 24-25 February: Southbound stretch of Manchester Road. There will also be some remedial works done to existing markings on the cycle path

All works are planned to take place between the hours of 11:30pm and 5:30am and should be open again by the morning.

Traffic management procedures will be in place to ensure that temporary road closures can be managed without the use of diversion routes.

Delivery access should be unaffected, with the onsite team managing driver access where required.

Reminders

Live now: Public consultation on proposed improvements to Kings Road

Bradford Council in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority is currently seeking the public’s views on proposed changes to Kings Road.

The Kings Road Connect project includes proposals to improve transport options along Kings Road by making bus travel more reliable and comfortable, and making walking, wheeling and cycling safer and more attractive. You can find out more about the Kings Road Connect scheme and leave your feedback by clicking here.

The public consultation on the proposals began on the 3 February 2025 and will run till Sunday 16 March 2025.

You can get in contact with the Kings Road Connect team through the below channels.

These channels are monitored Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, excluding bank holidays.

Bradford Interchange Bus Station

Bradford Interchange bus station reopened to the public in January 2025, and bus services are operating from the upper concourse.

Due to ongoing resurfacing works, around six bus stands will stay out of action until at least April 2025. Therefore, some bus services will remain on-street until that time.

You can read the latest information on the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Metro page by clicking here.

This week’s construction, traffic, and access updates

Traffic management

There are currently no active or planned traffic management measures in place in the city centre. Most of the transformation works were completed in December 2024, and the newly pedestrianised streets are fully open to the public.
