Norfolk Gardens opening marks completion of city centre transformation

Norfolk Gardens has been opened to the public now that the recently installed planting and landscaping has finally settled, with the fencing around the area now removed.

The new 10,000 square metre park area follows the pedestrianisation of nearby streets, including Market Street, Bridge Street, Bank Street and Broadway. The area features new trees, planting, seating, and communal meeting spaces for all to enjoy.

Cycle routes linking Jacobs Well and Hall Ings are now complete, and the space has already began hosting public events. The next major event, the Super Soapbox Challenge takes place on Sunday 4 May.

You can find out more about Norfolk Gardens opening and the city centre project by clicking here.

This milestone marks the completion of a £45 million transformation of the city centre. Delivered by Bradford Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the scheme was funded through the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF).

A series of photos that show the completed Norfolk Gardens can be seen below.

Update on the Future Bradford Newsletter schedule

With the city centre transformation now complete, we’ll continue to share key updates as they happen. As construction activity winds down, our newsletter will move to a less frequent schedule, ensuring each update remains timely and relevant for our readers.

We want to thank our readers for your continued interest and engagement in this transformative project for the district. Stay tuned for more city centre updates, and news on other exciting upcoming developments in the district.

Reminder: Bradford Interchange Bus Station

Bradford Interchange bus station reopened to the public in January 2025, and bus services are operating from the upper concourse.

Due to ongoing resurfacing works, around six bus stands will stay out of action until at least April 2025. Therefore, some bus services will remain on-street until that time.

The quickest route from Bradford Interchange to Nelson Street, where the temporary on-street bus stops are located, is via the back entrance of the bus station.

Upcoming city centre event: Tower of Now to be unveiled

The Tower of Now, a 15-metre sculpture that pays tribute to the rich variety of cultures present throughout Bradford, the wider district and the UK will be unveiled this weekend.

The sculpture, created by artist Saad Quresh, will be officially unveiled on Saturday 26 April and will take its place in the new park area at the former NCP car park site for a year.

You can read more about the unveiling and events being held to mark the occasion by clicking here.
