Historic tram tracks installed on Bridge Street
Historic tram tracks unearthed last year by the construction team have been re-embedded on Bridge Street and incorporated into the transformation works.
The tracks, believed to be at least 100 years old, were carefully removed from the site and restored by a Sheffield-based company. They were then shot-blasted to remove rust before being coated with a protective polyurethane layer.
Last week, the construction team reinstalled the tracks in almost the exact spot where they were found, marking a small yet significant piece of Bradford’s heritage in the heart of the city centre.
You can find out more about this story by visiting the Bradford Council website.

Other progress
The construction team have made significant progress in the Norfolk Gardens area with the installation of new paving. Once the paving is complete, the construction team will then begin planting new greenery and street furniture.
In our 22 November 2024 issue we shared a plan of how the Norfolk Gardens area will look once it is completed. The design for the open green space draws inspiration from Bradford’s textile history, featuring plants traditionally used for natural dyes.
We have shared an image below of the progress that has been made in the area.

Reminders
Bradford Interchange Bus Station now open
Bradford Interchange bus station reopened to the public in January 2025, and bus services are now operating from the upper concourse.
Due to ongoing resurfacing works, around six bus stands will stay out of action until at least April 2025. Therefore, some bus services will remain on-street until that time.
This week’s construction, traffic, and access updates
Traffic management
There are currently no active or planned traffic management measures in place in the city centre. Most of the transformation works were completed in December 2024, and the newly pedestrianised streets are fully open to the public.
